What Are American Girl Dolls?


American Girl dolls are a line of 18-inch dolls that portray 8- to 11-year-old girls of different ethnicities, from various time periods and contemporary life. Books that are sold along with the dolls tell stories from the point of view of the characters. Other related accessories, toys and clothes are available as well.

The BeForever line was created in 1986, and featured dolls as characters from different periods of American history. The line was originally known as The American Girl Collection. In 1995, the company began to make a line of dolls featuring contemporary characters that became know as My American Girl. These dolls feature different combinations of hair, eye color, skin tone and face mold, allowing girls to find a unique doll that's right for them.
