The American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin is the official silver bullion coin of the United States, and it is the only silver bullion coin guaranteed by the U.S. Mint. First minted in 1986, the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver.
The obverse of the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin features a version of the "Walking Liberty" design originally seen on half-dollars between 1916 and 1947. The reverse features an eagle and a shield that is similar to the design used in the seal of the United States. Each coin bears a stamp declaring that it contains 1 ounce of fine silver. Although each coin is worth $1 as legal tender, its actual value as a piece of precious metal is higher.
