The Wright brothers are considered the inventors of the first successful airplane. Both excelled in school, especially in science and math, but never attained a diploma. Prior to starting the airplane project, they owned a newspaper called the West Side News and a cycle company where they sold, repaired and manufactured bicycles. The Wright brothers worked on several mechanical projects and followed the research of a German aviator Otto Lilienthal. After the death of Lilienthal, they started their airplane project.
