Artillery weapons used by Civil War armies included cannons such as smoothbore guns and Parrott rifles. These cannons sat on wheels, and animals such as mules and horses pulled them to battlefields.
Ammunition used during the Civil War included Minnie Balls, shots, shells, shrapnels and canisters. During the Civil War, the North possessed an advantage when it came to weaponry, as it had a large number of factories that could produce weapons. The South did not have access to enough weapons, and it acquired many weapons from captured Union soldiers.
