Although U.S. President Barack Obama comes from an eclectic religious background, as of 2014 he is a practicing Christian. He belongs to the United Church of Christ, in which he was baptized as an adult.
Obama's parents were both non-practicing by the time he was born. His father came from a Muslim background and his mother came from a Christian one, so he was raised with both influences. His mother also exposed him to other world religions, such as Buddhism and Shinto. As a child, he attended both Muslim and Catholic schools. The United Church of Christ is a denomination that emphasizes personal conscience and has both liberal and conservative congregations.
