The main religion of the Han dynasty was Taoism. The Han dynasty also embraced the philosophical ideas of Confucianism. Buddhism was brought to China during the Han dynasty.

The Han dynasty existed for over four centuries, from 206 B.C. to A.D. 220. It was succeeded by the Three Kingdoms dynasty and preceded by the Qin dynasty. The Han dynasty was founded by Liu Bang.

The advancement of science and technology accelerated during the Han dynasty. Concepts such as negative numbers were introduced into mathematics. Additionally, paper making and the nautical steering rudder were developed. The salt and iron industries were nationalized during the Han dynasty.
