Born on June 5, 1878, in San Juan del Rio, Durango, Mexico, Villa became a popular figure in Hollywood and, in 1913, allowed Mutual Film Company to film some of his battles. Although the United States joined Villa's 1914 revolution, he killed and kidnapped Americans in 1916 after losing American military support. He retired from revolutionary life in 1920 but was assassinated on July 20, 1923, in Parral, Mexico.
