Who Are Some Other Current or Former Black Presidents in the World Besides Barack Obama?

As of 2015, black presidents around the world, other than Barack Obama, include Nelson Mandela, Michel Martelly and Robert Mugabe. P. J. Patterson was the first Prime Minister to be born of two black parents.

Nelson Mandela was president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He served only one term. He was inaugurated as South Africa’s first democratically elected President after more than 30 years in prison.

Michel Martelly is the president of Haiti. He was inaugurated in 2011. Prior to his life in politics, Martelly was a popular musician known by the stage name "Sweet Micky."

Robert Mugabe is the president of Zimbabwe. He has led the country since 1980, first as Prime Minister then as President.

P. J. Patterson is the Prime Minister of Jamaica. He was appointed Prime Minister in 1992.
