How Many Kids Did John Adams Have?

John Adams and his wife Abigail had six children. His oldest daughter, Abigail, was born in 1765, and future president John Quincy Adams was born in 1767. A second daughter, Susanna, was born in 1768, followed by Charles in 1770, Thomas Boylston in 1772 and Elizabeth in 1777.

John Adams outlived many of his own children, and only John Quincy went on to have a prosperous life. Abigail passed away from breast cancer in 1813, Susanna died after only living one year, and Elizabeth was stillborn. Adams became estranged from his son Charles in 1798, and Charles would die in New York City two years later. His son Thomas Boylston became an alcoholic in his later years and died in 1832.
