According to Aztec-History, evidence suggests that the Olmecs were located in the southern Gulf Coast of Mexico. As of 2014, the area that they occupied includes the states Veracruz and Tabasco. Very little is known about the Olmecs.

The jaguar was a central religious figure for the Olmecs. It is commonly believed that the Olmecs engaged in human sacrifice. According to Aztec-History, some experts believe that the Olmecs originated from Africa. There is evidence that they engaged in trade over wide geographic areas.
