P. Allen Smith is an award-winning designer and gardening and lifestyle expert. As of 2015, he is the host of two public television programs and the author of cookbook and a best-selling series of books about home gardens.
One of America's most recognized and respected garden and design experts, Smith's inspirational ideas about home improvement have influenced countless people and made positive steps toward environmental stewardship. Several national magazines and television programs feature his lifestyle and design advice. Smith grew up on a farm in Tennessee raising and showing livestock and poultry, which inspired his philosophy of preservation and living a sustainable life as well as the foundation of the Heritage Poultry Conservancy. He won a scholarship to study garden design in England before returning to the United States to teach gardening workshops, the success of which expanded into his television career.
Smith designed and built Moss Mountain Farm (also known as The Garden Home Retreat) on more than 500 acres along the banks of the Arkansas River to highlight the eco-friendly abundance that he promotes. The construction project was a result of the Garden Home Challenge, wherein he and his colleagues built an environmentally friendly home for $150,000 in 150 days, a beautiful American Greek Revival-style cottage that serves as focal point to the farm. Some of his most popular books include "Bringing the Garden Indoors: Container, Crafts and Bouquets for Every Room" and "Seasonal Recipes from the Garden."
