Who Invented the Computer?

Technology historians do not credit any single person with the invention of the computer. A number of individuals made discoveries that led to the development of the electronic computer.

One of the most important people in the history of computing was Alan Turing. He was a mathematical genius who laid down the fundamental guidelines for how an electronic computer works in 1936. Another important individual in the history of the computer was Konrad Zuse. He developed a computing machine in the late 1930s that contained both electronic and mechanical elements. The first programmable electric computer, called Colossus, was created by Tommy Flowers in 1943.
