The Aztecs believed in three main gods, with their main god being Tezcatilpoca. They also believed in Huitzilopochtli and Quetzalcoatl.
Tezcatilpoca served as the god of night for the Aztecs. The Aztecs believed that he controlled men's destiny. He was the god that brought war and misfortune to Earth. While that is the case, Huitzilopochtli was considered the god of war and the god of sun. As the god of sun, the Aztecs believed that they must nourish him with human blood, hence their belief in human sacrifice.
The third god, Quetzalcoatl, was the second sun to the Aztecs. He was considered the god of learning and civilization. It was also believed that he was the god that brought learning and agriculture to humans.
