Ross Perot ran for President of the United States in both 1992 and 1996. According to Biography.com, he won almost 19 percent of the popular vote when he ran as an independent in 1992. He formed the Reform Party in 1995 and ran as its candidate in the 1996 election.
Perot's respectable showing in the 1992 election results came despite his having dropped out of the race during the summer, only to return to it in the last few weeks leading up to the election. Perot was an extremely successful businessman and used a great deal of his own money to finance his campaign.
