Harriet Tubman married Nelson Davis on March 18, 1869. Nelson Davis was Harriet Tubman's second husband. Her first husband was John Tubman, who died in 1867.
Harriet Tubman married her first husband while she was still a slave, so she was never officially married to him. She met Nelson Davis in 1869 and married him the same year. He had formerly been a slave in North Carolina, and he fought in the Civil War. Harriet Tubman and Nelson Davis never had any children of their own, but they adopted a daughter in 1874. They were married for 19 years until Davis' death in 1888.
