Albert Einstein lived in a number of places throughout his life, including Germany from 1879 to 1894, Italy from 1894 to 1895 and Switzerland from 1896 to 1911 before going back to Switzerland until 1914 and then to America from 1933 until he died. Though born in Germany, Einstein was a Swiss citizen for a number of years before going back to Germany and taking back up his original citizenship from 1914 to 1933. He renounced his German citizenship in 1933 due to political reasons.
After renouncing his German citizenship, he came to America. The move to America was to take a position at Princeton University in New Jersey. Einstein only kept his position as Professor of Theoretical Physics until 1945 when he retired. Einstein gained his American citizenship in 1940. He lived in Princeton with his stepdaughter until he passed away in 1955.
