As of 2014, Cuba maintains close political relations with both Iran and North Korea and is in negotiations with Russia to renew an alliance that existed during the Soviet Era. Cuba is also part of a bloc of countries in Latin America opposed to the U.S. economic doctrine.
Cuba has come out in support of both Iran and North Korea in geopolitical issues prior to 2014. Cuba was one of the countries who voiced public support for the nuclear program developed by Iran. It is also suspected that Cuba is helping North Korea get around sanctions against its import and export of weapons. Officials from both countries were reported to have met in July 2013.
