The Comanche Nation includes parts of Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas. The headquarters of the Comanche Nation is located in Lawton, Oklahoma, and about half of all tribal members reside in Southwestern Oklahoma.
The Comanche historically lived throughout the Great Plains of the United States. Modern culture and the immigration of Europeans shrank their territory to what it is today. The Comanche Nation has more than 15,000 tribal members, as of 2015, and is federally recognized as a Native American tribe. Walters, Oklahoma, hosts the annual tribal pow wow, and many tribal members making the journey to attend the celebration.
