The Zone Diet involves eating balanced meals that contain 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat and 40 percent carbohydrates, according to WebMD. Three meals and two snacks are permitted on the plan each day, and no type of food is completely banned.
The Zone Diet does not promise significant and dramatic weight loss, but it is normal to lose 1 to 1.5 pounds in the first week. Women are allotted approximately 1,200 calories per day, and men can have 1,500 calories. People on the plan should not go more than five waking hours without having a meal or a snack.
