According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, all rice can be fattening when too much is consumed at one time. A person who is on a diet or trying to maintain a healthy weight must eat rice in moderation because rice is loaded with carbohydrates and calories.

White rice is produced through a process that removes vitamins, fiber and iron, making it less healthy than whole-grain rice. A report by WedMD states white rice raises glucose levels more quickly than brown rice does, and a study suggests people who eat more brown rice than white have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
