Spinach extracts containing green leaf membranes called thylakoids can encourage weight loss, claims a study published by Lund University in Sweden. Thylakoids intensify the body's production of satiety hormones and decrease hedonic hunger, leading to more regulated eating habits.
The three-month study conducted by Lund University in Sweden involved 38 overweight women. Half of the subjects were given spinach extract with thylakoids, while the other half, the control group, were given a placebo. The control group lost an average of 3.5 kilograms. The group that consumed the spinach extract lost an average of 5 kilograms and reported better appetite control.
