A weight and height chart is usually termed a BMI chart. BMI charts may differ in appearance but include a scale of height measurements, a scale of weight measurements and corresponding body mass indexes. The BMI is the number present at the meeting point when lining up a person's height and weight on a BMI chart. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, and a BMI of over 30 is considered obese, according to WebMD.
Height-weight charts are often used as indicators of health and to determine whether an individual is of average weight, underweight or overweight. Some charts also take into consideration the age and gender of an individual.
A height-weight chart is generally not an accurate assessment for individuals who fall outside weight norms, such as weight lifters or athletes, as these individuals generally have higher or lower BMIs than the average person.Learn more about Medical Ranges & Levels
