It is possible to relieve the itching due to fiberglass by rinsing the affected area, applying a cool cloth to the area and using an over-the-counter anti-itch cream. Fiberglass itch occurs as a result of contact dermatitis. This happens when the skin reacts to the fiberglass because it sees it as an irritant.
If the itching develops into a persistent rash, medical treatment is sometimes necessary. Doctors may prescribe topical corticosteroids to alleviate itching and inflammation. They may also prescribe creams like pimecrolimus cream or tacrolimus ointment to help treat the itching along with any scaling and redness.
