Vitamins for restless legs include vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folic acid, or vitamin B9, according to WebMD and Alternative Medicine Review. Deficiencies in the B vitamin folate and iron are related to the syndrome, which affects adults, children and pregnant women.
Studies show a connection between vitamin D deficiency and restless legs syndrome, notes Everyday Health. After the patients in the study received vitamin D supplements that restored their proper levels, their restless legs symptoms improved substantially. The vitamin regulates bone growth and brain and muscle function.
Vitamin B9, or folic acid, and vitamin B12 work together to help the body use iron properly and help create red blood cells, explains the University of Maryland Medical Center. Vitamin B9 in synthetic form is folic acid, which is in fortified foods and supplements, while folate is in foods including spinach, kidney beans and beets naturally.
