Roizman mentions that B-complex vitamins metabolize carbohydrates, proteins and fats for stored energy. For instance, thiamine, otherwise known as vitamin B-1, breaks down fats and carbohydrates. Riboflavin is also called vitamin B-2, and it transports energy in the cells. Pantothenic acid, or vitamin B-5, contributes to enzymes that metabolize fats. Vitamin B-6 helps with the production of L-carnitine, which is an amino acid that burns fat. L-carnitine also transports triglycerides into the muscles to be used as energy.
Roizman claims that iron and niacin also assist in producing L-carnitine. Iron allows more oxygen to the muscles for more efficient fat burning. CoQ10, also called Coenzyme Q10 or ubiquinone, helps in producing energy in the mitochondrial parts of each cell in the body. CoQ10 also pumps more oxygen into the body, which is helpful to cells in the muscles. This allows people with heart conditions to work out faster while burning more fat.
Roizman adds that creatine is another muscle agent that may improve muscle enhancement by as much as 15 percent. However, creatine is only stored in small amounts, and it depletes quickly.
