The most effective supplement version of vitamin C is ascorbic acid. However, as of 2015 studies show that nutrients in supplement form do not provide the same health benefits as a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, says Consumer Reports.
Vitamin C has many health benefits, including tissue repair, reduction of cholesterol and protection against heart disease, reports the National Institutes of Health. It is easy to reach the recommended daily dosage of vitamin C through normal diet because many fruits and vegetables provide high levels of the vitamin. Citrus fruits, kiwi, leafy vegetables and red bell peppers are some examples of foods with high vitamin C content.
