Vince Carter uses a type of vertical jump training known as plyometrics to obtain the power attributed to his once 43-inch vertical. Box jumps, depth jumps, knee tuck jumps and squat hops and jumps are all effective vertical jump exercises within plyometrics training.
Carter claims he keeps his top physical form by eliminating unnecessary weight, avoiding the temptation to "overtrain," focusing on the quality of repetitions instead of quantity, stretching properly, and using a jump rope. Carter's jumping ability has earned him the nickname "Vinsanity." His most notable feats include his performance to win the 2000 NBA Dunk Contest and a dunk in the 2000 Olympics over 7-foot-2 Frenchman Frederic Weis.
