As of August 2015, videos of gallbladder removal are available on YouTube. Some feature animations, such as an offering from PreOp.com, but others, such as one from Carolina Surgical of Charlotte, depict actual operations.
PreOp.com, a company that creates interactive video for health care providers, offers a five-minute animated laparoscopic version of the procedure. The video illustrates what happens both inside and outside the body during surgery.
In a real-life version, a physician from Carolina Surgical of Charlotte inserts a camera inside a patient's body to record the gall bladder procedure. The physician threads the camera through a trocar that goes through the navel. During a laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon uses this device to guide instruments into the affected area.
