Diclofenac potassium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This class of drugs is used in adults orally for pain relief and anti-inflammatory diseases, according to Drugs.com.
Drugs.com states that diclofenac potassium 50 milligram tablets can be taken two to three times daily by patients who have joint pain from osteoarthirits, rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. It can also be taken two to three times daily by women who have dysmenorrhoea, or pain during menstruation. Adults who experience pain after surgery or who have pain from strains and other minor injuries may also take diclofenac potassium 50 milligram tablets up to two to three times a day.
Drugs.com warns that people with known allergic reactions to NSAIDs or aspirin should not take diclofenac potassium due to an increased risk of gastric bleeding or ulceration. In addition, there is a possible increased risk of heart attack or stroke from taking diclofenac potassium.
