The best cities to find women looking to marry are those with the fewest eligible men. A 2014 study by Pew Research found 10 major cities where the ratio of employed young men to eligible women was extremely low for those between the ages of 25 and 34.
The city with the lowest number of employed single young men per 100 eligible women was Memphis, Tennessee, which polled only 59. The percentage of people in the age range examined who had never been married was 63 percent.
Other cities that had only around 70 to 80 suitable young men per 100 eligible women included the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area, Kansas City and New Orleans. Nashville, Philadelphia, Detroit and Miami also featured on the list. New Orleans and Miami had the highest rates of never-married people among this group, with 66 percent of all people living there who were between the ages of 25 and 34 having never been married.
The study looked only at those young men who would be considered conventionally eligible. This means that they had to be officially single as well as gainfully employed at the time of the study. Students, entrepreneurs with start-up businesses and artists are likely to have been underrepresented.
