Master Cleanse, also known as the Lemonade Diet, uses fresh lemon juice and cayenne pepper as part of an all-liquid detoxification diet users consume for at least 10 days. The diet also includes a quart of salt water each day and a cup of herbal laxative tea.
The lemonade drink that's the centerpiece of the diet contains cayenne pepper, fresh lemon or lime juice, maple syrup and water. Users drink up to 12 glasses of the lemonade each day, which equals 650 calories. The Master Cleanse website recommends tapering off the diet slowly because extreme nausea results when users end the diet abruptly.
