Plain foods such as rice, potatoes, cereal, crackers and toast are recommended because they do not cause nausea during stomach flu, according to Healthline. Fresh apples, yogurt and bananas in small amounts combat diarrhea. Spicy foods, dairy products, high-fat foods and caffeine make nausea and diarrhea worse and should be avoided.
