If a person does not make it to an emergency room when having a thyroid storm, they may suffer from heart failure, fall into a coma or even die.
Some of the most common and severe symptoms associated with thyroid storm are diarrhea, agitation, sweating, heightened temperature, confusion, shaking and tachycardia, according to the National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus. The most common causes of thyroid storm is severe stress that occurs because of an infection, trauma or a heart attack. Thyroid storm happens to people that have hyperthyroidism and fail to get proper treatment for it.
