Such activities include wearing well-cushioned shoes, walking up and down stairs one at a time, and keeping the hips level. Other activities that may help to reduce pain from hip bursitis include sleeping on the uninjured side or on the back with a pillow between the knees and managing weight.
Hip bursitis is often caused by repetitive, minor impact around the hips, states WebMD. Overuse and injury to the joint during work or play may also be a cause of hip bursitis. High-risk activities that can cause hip bursitis include gardening, skiing, carpentry, tennis and golf.
