When ranked for consumer satisfaction, some of the top-rated vitamin brands include Kirkland, Nature Made, USANA and Ester-C, according to ConsumerLab.com. Darwin and Swanson brand supplements were also among the top-rated brands.
The results from ConsumerLab.com were based on a survey of over 10,000 vitamin and supplement users, which took place in 2012. Over 1,400 brands were rated in the survey. Carlson was the top-rated brand for fish oils, Garden of Life was the favorite brand for probiotics, and Life Extension took the top spot for both multivitamins and CoQ10. Darwin was the favorite grocery store brand, while CVS was the top-ranking pharmacy brand. Douglas Labs was the best health care practitioner brand.
Of the 851 merchants evaluated in the report, the top-ranking supplement merchants were Swanson, Nutrilite, Trader Joe's, Target, CVS, The Vitamin Shoppe and Costco. Amazon.com and iHerb.com were ranked as the top online merchants, states ConsumerLab.com.
When pharmacists were surveyed, they recommended Citracal and Caltrate as calcium supplements; Nature Made for fish oil supplements and CoQ10; Culturelle and Florastor for probiotics; Centrum and One A Day for multivitamins; Metamucil and Benefiber for fiber; and Metamucil and Slo-Niacin for cholesterol management, according to U.S. News & World Report.
