How Do You Do a Three-Day Detox Cleanse?

In one example of a three-day cleanse, participants drink a detox tea first thing in the morning, and then drink blended fruit and vegetable smoothies for breakfast, lunch and dinner, explains Dr. Oz. Participants finish the day with a detox ultra bath containing Epsom salt and lavender oil.

Morning detox tea contains green tea with a slice of lemon and 1 teaspoon of stevia. Participants drink this tea every morning of the three day cleanse, states Dr. Oz. To make the breakfast drink, blend 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of flax seed, 1 cup of raspberries, a banana and 1/4 cup of spinach, along with 1 tablespoon of almond butter and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. The lunch drink blends 4 celery stalks, a cucumber, 1 cup of kale, 1/2 a green apple and 1/2 lime with 1 cup of pineapple, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1/2 cup of almond milk.

For the dinner drink, place 1/2 cup of mango, 1 cup of blueberries, 1 1/2 cups of coconut water, 1 cup of kale and 1 tablespoon of lemon into a blender, along with 1/4 of an avocado, 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1 tablespoon of flax seeds. Blend until smooth. If desired, participants in the three-day cleanse may prepare their favorite drink as a snack between lunch and dinner, states Dr. Oz. Participants also take omega-3, probiotic and multivitamin supplements during the cleanse.

The goal of a detox cleanse is to provide the liver with the nutrients it needs to detoxify efficiently. Making lifestyle changes such as enhancing circulation through exercise and sweating and increasing hydration by drinking plenty of water can be helpful during the cleanse. Reducing stress levels, supplementing with probiotics and improving bowel function and waste elimination by using herbal ingredients, colonics or enemas can also prove beneficial.
