Doctors advise patients to apply ice to the injured foot for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, as much as two times an hour. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications helps alleviate pain, and performing simple range-of-motion exercises helps to prevent stiffness.
It can take months for a tendon injury to fully heal, but patients may return to normal activities when they begin to feel better, according to WebMD. It's important to warm up the foot before exercising and gently stretch the foot following activity. If pain or swelling occur, apply ice to the area.
