While it is possible to alleviate symptoms associated with fibromyalgia, it is not easy to treat it. A few examples of medications approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for use to treat fibromyalgia are pregabalin, duloxetine and milnacipran.

A person with fibromyalgia may experience extreme fatigue, loss of energy, or numbness in the arms, hands, face, legs or feet, according to WebMD. Other symptoms include irritable bladder, which increases the urge to visit the bathroom. Inability to withstand exercises and feeling pain after performing exercises are other indicators of the problem. The individual may also suffer from muscle spasms.

Constipation that comes along with irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, nausea and abdominal pain may show that an individual has fibromyalgia, WebMD explains. Feeling of stiffness after sitting in one position for a long period or just after waking up are other symptoms of fibromyalgia. Individuals with fibromyalgia may experience habitual sleeplessness, otherwise known as insomnia, or tiredness upon waking up.

A person who suffers from fibromyalgia is likely to be sensitive to certain medications, certain foods, noise, cold and certain odors, notes WebMD. The individual may experience sensitivity to bright lights as well. Tension, migraine headaches, and feeling swollen in the feet and legs may signify that a person has the problem. Symptoms of fibromyalgia may worsen with the time of the day, changes in weather conditions, anxiety, stress and changes in hormone levels.
