Ensure that you are ready to stretch. If you have any problems with the ball and socket joints in your hips, you may have trouble with this routine. Additionally, if there are people moving around near you, make sure they know you are going to begin stretching. Because this stretch requires you to lie on the ground, it is important that the people around you know that you are there.
Lie down flat on your back. Lift your legs slightly so that you can press the soles of your feet together. In doing this, you should naturally lift your knees up slightly so that they are elevated above the ground. Do not move too quickly when assuming this position.
Start to slowly move your knees down toward the ground on either side of you. If you encounter any trouble with this stage of the stretch, you can press your hands down on your inner thighs and exert downward pressure to help your knees move.
