How Do You Get Straight Teeth With Invisible Braces?

Invisible braces, commonly identified with the Invisalign brand, are removable braces that are fitted on an adult's or teen's teeth to straighten or realign the smile, according to WebMD. Impressions of the teeth are made to customize the aligners. The appliances are then switched every two weeks until the treatment is complete. The therapy takes about 10 to 24 months or no more than two years.

WebMD states that orthodontic aligners or invisible braces are suggested for patients who have moderate to minor problems with crowding or spacing. Individuals who have severe overbites, underbites or crossbites usually must opt for a more complex treatment plan. Immovable ceramic or metal braces are used to treat bite problems or to address more severe spacing or crowding issues of the teeth.

WebMD adds that aligners are generally not recommended for children because their jaws and teeth are still developing. Therefore, immovable braces are usually a better solution.

According to the Invisalign site, removable braces are made of a clear acrylic or plastic and are designed to fit snugly inside the mouth. The aligners can be removed so that the patient can brush, floss and eat.

The Invisalign site also states that aligners enhance oral health. By straightening the teeth, patients experience fewer problems with bleeding gums and speech difficulties. Realigning the teeth is a safeguard against future dental issues, including dental cavities, gum disease and erosion.
