When you carry around extra weight, your neck can grow tissue that pushes on airways, causing the movements that lead to snoring. If the cause is not sleep apnea, losing weight may eliminate the snoring. Rolling over onto your side to sleep cuts down on the pressure that lying on your back applies to the throat. If you sew a tennis ball or a baseball to an old T-shirt and sleep in that shirt, wearing it with the ball on the back, you're much less likely to roll to your back while you are asleep, notes Huffington Post.
If allergies or congestion are the cause of snoring, and you notice that dry air makes things worse, a humidifier can reduce snoring. If you usually have a cocktail or glass of wine before bed, you may be relaxing the muscles that would normally hold your airway open.
