If an individual is plagued by feelings of emptiness, he can slowly reach out to others. Human interaction and social contact are good ways to alleviate feelings of emptiness. Yoga, meditation and eastern philosophy often help, but too much can drive the mind inwards.
An isolated individual must make an extra effort to reach out and connect with the external universe. To feel less empty, start by striking up a conversation with a stranger, joining a club that involves interaction with others or by volunteering at a food bank or senior citizen center. Connect with other individuals on a daily basis, ask for directions, say good morning or simply offer help to others.
