Men and women can determine whether or not they are sterile, or infertile, by undergoing fertility tests. Sterility refers to the inability to produce offspring through sexual reproduction.
Fertility tests for men include the analysis of sperm and semen, such as determining the shape of the sperm and the quantity, genetic testing and hormone level checks, according to WebMD. Physicians can also investigate possible conditions, such as retrograde ejaculation.
Fertility tests for women include hormone level checks, ovulation testing, tests that determine the health of ovarian function, biopsies and imaging tests, according to the American Pregnancy Association. A reproductive condition does not automatically denote infertility. Many reproductive issues can be treated. If a man or woman suspects sterility, he or she should consult a reproductive physician.
