According to Dr. Mao Shing Ni for The Dr. Oz Show website, some of the ways an individual can improve his eyesight are to eat the right foods, exercise the eyes and make sure the eyes get plenty of rest. Some doctors recommend massages as a way to increase the flow of blood to the eyes and acupuncture to strengthen vision, notes WebMD.
Dr. Shing Ni states that specific nutrients ideal for improving eyesight include antioxidants, sulfur, lecithin, DHA, anthocyanin and vitamins A, C and E. Sources of these nutrients are egg yolks, garlic, capers, wild salmon, cod and goji berries. Eye exercises can be done first thing in the morning or before bed. After warming the palms by rubbing them together, place them over the eyes, hold for five seconds and repeat three times. Another eye exercise is to look up and slowly roll the eyes clockwise 10 times before rolling them counterclockwise 10 more times. Simply using the thumb knuckles to massage the temples 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other is an effective eye exercise.
Dr. Shing Ni also notes that getting plenty of sleep is essential for the overall health of the eyes. It is best to rest the eyes for 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent in front of a computer screen or while reading.
