Recreational use of marijuana is legal in Washington, Colorado, Alaska and Oregon, as of November 2015. Marijuana for recreational use is also legal in Washington, D.C. Marijuana is legal for medical reasons in California, Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico and Nevada, as well as Montana, Illinois, New York and Michigan.
New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Maryland and Connecticut also allow marijuana use for medical reasons, as do Delaware and New Jersey. Laws vary from state to state on how or when marijuana can be used for medical reasons, some are broad and deal with a number of different medical conditions. Some states have passed laws making it legal for residents to possess cannabis oil if they have certain illnesses.
