Do Slimming Belts Really Work?

According to WebMD, slimming belts, such as electronic muscle stimulating belts, do not truly work to shed belly fat. Some mild improvements may be seen with the use of slimming belts, but they are better for physical therapy and muscle strengthening than for losing weight.

According to Ace Fitness, spot slimming, which is what slimming belts promise, cannot truly be done without losing overall body weight. This can be achieved through exercises including cardio training, strength training and core strengthening to contour the waist area. The Mayo Clinic adds that basic calorie counting is important for weight loss.

In the case of slimming belts, WebMD warns that the makers of three ab stimulator slimming belts were fined $5 million in 2003 for false advertising.
