Try to burn more calories than you consume each day. On average, exercising for one hour per day should help you to lose between 3 and 5 pounds per week if you consume between 1,000 and 1,200 calories daily. Write down everything you eat and how many calories each item contains.
Cut dairy products, added sugars, starches and fatty meats from your diet. Get your protein from low-fat options, such as skinless chicken, soy, seafood and lean meats. Pack your diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fiber-rich products.
Try to restrict your eating to three meals per day and the occasional snack. Avoid eating when you're bored or feeling down. Drink plenty of water to reduce hunger.
For at least one hour per day, perform steady cardio exercises. Add strength training for a few hours per week if desired. Try to stay active, and do exercises that make you sweat.
Go to bed and wake up on a consistent schedule. Try to get around seven hours of sleep per night.
