Should You Work Out When You Are Sore?

If muscles are sore when touched or range of motion is limited, it is recommended that the workout should wait another day or two. During this time, warm baths and gentle stretching is recommended.

However, if the soreness is mild, light aerobic activity, stretching or light weightlifting may help alleviate some of the soreness. When soreness is mild, it may help to begin with mild cardio exercise such as cycling or a walk on the treadmill to determine if muscles can withstand a more rigorous workout. Light activity may stimulate the blood flow within the muscles to aid in the muscle repair process.
