Ground flaxseed, but not flaxseed oil, potentially helps with menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats, says WebMD. There is evidence that consuming 40 grams of ground flaxseed per day eases mild symptoms of menopause as successfully as hormone therapy.
It is important the flaxseed is ground before ingestion to allow for absorption, advises WebMD. It can be ground in a small coffee grinder as needed and added to drinks or foods, such as muffins and bread.
As well as possibly easing constipation, consuming ground flaxseed improves kidney function for some sufferers of lupus, reports WebMD. Research is being conducted to determine whether flaxseed helps with cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis, among other conditions, but there is not yet sufficient evidence that it does.
