The Gerson Clinic, located in Tijuana, Mexico, offers alternative cancer treatment in the form of Gerson Therapy. The therapy involves the patient adhering to a special diet, taking specified supplements and undergoing coffee enemas multiple times per day.
The Gerson Clinic operates with a license issued by the nonprofit Gerson Institute, located in San Diego, California. In addition to beginning Gerson Therapy, it allows patients and their companions to take classes and learn how to continue the therapy once they leave the clinic to return to their homes.
Gerson Therapy includes up to five coffee enemas a day; the Gerson Institute claims that these enemas stimulate the body's metabolism and detoxify the system. The diet is completely vegetarian and organic and includes as many as 13 glasses of fresh fruit and vegetable juice each day. Supplements included with the treatment include thyroid hormones, vitamin B12, pancreatic enzymes, potassium compound, and an inorganic solution of iodine with potassium iodide.
Patients are required to stay at the Gerson Clinic for at least two weeks. However, doctors there recommend most patients stay for three weeks to obtain the full benefits of the treatment. The cost of treatment also covers lodging and meals for both the patient and a companion throughout the stay.
